You’re Not That Smart

johnburke:

I’m beginning to hate Facebook notes. They’ve become a pseudo blog for people and have become used as an outlet of self expression. Fine. That’s the point! That’s what a blog is for, a Facebook note, hell even a tweet on Twitter but it’s getting extreme. There have been a lot of posts regarding religion, death, people, race, etc. and they almost ALWAYS turn into a debate. Once again, fine - to a point. I don’t feel that Facebook is the appropriate social medium to turn these debates into elitist conversations where people who have no business throwing themselves in feel the need to use big words and cite bullshit sources they don’t actually know anything about.

Typical Facebook Note Progression:

1. Author posts about a controversial topic.

2. Mass people reply with “Good point” and “I agree”.

3. One big mouth replies with “You’re wrong”.

4. A debate ensues.

5. More elitist AP students get involved.

6. Debate turns into “You’re wrong, <insert big words here>.

7. Masses of people now reply and say they agree with the “winner” of the debate.

Get a fucking life people. Seriously. Get a website, a radio show or a purpose other than sounding smart on Facebook.

UPDATE: Looks like this is now the second time Facebook notes have pissed me off enough for me to write about them.

THANK YOU.
