Warped Tour 2008 Recap

On July 26th, 2008 Kevin arrived at my house promptly at 7:45. We left, got McDonalds for breakfast, and then we were on our way to the Coliseum! :D

We got there and as usual you just stand around until a line forms (sort of) at the gates to get in! But standing around is fun sometimes, we met up with Joe and Leighann and we just took pictures and stuff haha.

So eventually they let us in and we went to write down when and where each band we wanted to see was playing. Then me, Kevin, and Joe walked around to find where each stage was. Nothing new here, I do this every year haha. But it was Kevin and Joe’s first time at Warped Tour so I’m sure they were finding it exciting :D

So we walked around and watched a few bands and eventually it was time for FTSK’s acoustic set! We wanted to make sure we were up at the front so we got there halfway through The Color Fred’s set and weasled our way up. We basically got the front so that was awesome! And that was where I happened to look behind me and see a girl sorta behind me and Kevin that made me do a double take. By the time FTSK was ready to start she made her way in front of Kevin somehow and we started sneaking pictures and videos and stuff. She looked like an extremely popular celebrity, see if you can figure out who we thought it was.

It wasn’t her, there’s no way in hell that it could have been with just me and Kevin noticing. But it was a very close resemblence and me and Kevin were honestly back and forth for like ten minutes before we decided there would have been like three bodyguards with her lmao. So then anyway, FTSK started playing and it was great, of course!

Their acoustic set last year was AMAZING, but this year since they’re basically big news now it wasn’t AS good because it was more crowded and shorter. Last year there was like 30 people watching it, this year there was like 50 to 100 probably. Oh well, I’m glad I got to see them before everyone knew about them at least :D

We walked around and watched more bands. We also met up with Bryan at some point and we all walked around together.

We all went and watched Family Force 5, which is a band that I never listened to very much but I knew some of their songs. Kevin and I mainly just wanted to see them because we saw at Bamboozle that they had an amazing crowd, and I mean they had a fun as hell looking pit and everyone was crowdsurfing. So we went to watch them and I’m SOOOOO glad we did because it was fun as hell! I got to mosh and crowdsurf so it was great. I had already done both alot during the day but it was so energetic in this crowd that it was more fun :D

After I met up with the guys after I crowdsurfed and walked around the outside, I found out that Kevin got dropped crowdsurfing and got some wounds hahah. Bryan scared him into thinking he was going to get AIDS and die lmfao, so we went to the medical tent. We literally just wanted like, a WIPE or something but they were like “sit down, we need to fill out a report” and so they had to clean up the scrapes and put GAUZE on them hahahah. I think they wrote that he had “abrasions on his epidermis” which translates to “a scrape” lmaoo.

At least he’s got some cool wounds now, I want wounds! Most of my wounds aren’t visible haha, I’m just all sore and my arm hurts and stuff. We left the medical tent and walked around some more and watched some bands until it was time to go watch FTSK’s electric set.

We got there halfway through The Audition’s set so we could try to get to the front for FTSK. We stood around the back of the pit closest to the front so that when it was over we could get up to the very front quickly. We thought it was over so we ran up and got to the front, when all of a sudden the singers said “we’re just about done, let’s finish this right!” and the way he said it just made me realize we screwed up BIG time. The damn singers jumped out right on me and Kevin and we basically just held them up with the rest of the kids around us. I mean it was hilarious how ironic it was, but I only found it hilarious after they had gotten back onstage hahahah.

As it got closer to when FTSK was going to play, we realized that none of the crowd was leaving, and if anything it was just getting bigger. It was an EXTREMELY sad moment for me when I looked back and saw how many people were there to watch FTSK.

Like it made me feel so sad because I’m not at all exaggerating when I say there was only like 15 to 20 people watching their electric set at last year’s Warped Tour. I swear that was it, we were like 5 feet from the barricade and that’s only because it would have been awkward to be so close with so little people there to watch. So to see that one of my unknown bands was so insanely well known now kinda sucked. Plus I wanted to kill everyone there when Jonathan from FTSK asked over the mic “We played Warped last year, who came to see us?” and every single one of the hundreds of people watching screamed and waved and everything.

What’s worse is that it got so crowded and stuffy up by where me and Kevin were that we just had to get out of the crowd. Kevin walked out through the side. I crowdsurfed to the front and went to go stand with Leighann and TJ (and Kevin got there too after a few minutes) up on this ledge thing where I couldn’t even see FTSK anymore past the huge amps and stuff. So I just sang along and waited til the last song so I could jump back in and crowdsurf real quick haha. Hardly anyone stayed to see them after they played, but I wanted to tell them I was there last year and I wanted to get pictures so I went around to the back to see them.

Then we stopped watching bands because there was no one we wanted to see for like an hour and a half. Well there was but me and Kevin didn’t even feel like going to see them because we were tired and hungry, so we walked around and looked at merch and stuff. I saw some writing on the ground that got me pumped for the last person we wanted to see who was playing at the very end of the day!

What’s funny is that most people wrote that stuff on the ground in chalk, but that was spray paint lmao. I’d assume it was some kind of wash-away spray paint, but I thought it would be hilarious if it wasn’t and that was just there now. Hahahah :D

We made our way to Katy Perry’s tent and took some pictures and stuff, but when we went to get on the line for autographs and stuff we were faced with shitty news. Apparently only 101 people received a stamp and were getting autographs and she was leaving after the 101st person! Here’s the shitty part: WE WERE 105 AND 106! How much does THAT suck? So we waited on the line for like 20 minutes for nothing and I decided we should just sit on the curb and wait for her to leave the tent. I knew she had to pass us to get to the stage she was playing on so we couldn’t miss her. While we waited I took a picture of the sky because it looked AWESOME.

After a little while, someone pointed out to me that Katy wasn’t at her merch tent anymore. BUT SHE NEVER PASSED US! :O Confused and annoyed, we walked to the stage she was playing at. When we got there I got this weird feeling and checked the schedule for the day and realized WE WERE AT THE WRONG STAGE! We ran out of there so fast lmao, and on the way we realized that the stage was on the opposite side of the praking lot, so when she left her merch tent she went the total opposite direction of where we were waiting. Lmfao again it was a hilariously ironic thing that I found funnier after I stopped being pissed at how dumb we were hahahah x]

So we got to her stage, she came out and was amazing. I was expecting her to be but it was even BETTER than I expected. I crowdsurfed to her last song (I don’t even need to say what it was) and then I met up with Kevin (who had gotten out of the crowd when it started to get stuffy, I only stayed because I planned on crowdsurfing in a few minutes anyway haha) and we left. We were relieved to get in the car and rest because we were tired as hell. But all in all it was an EXTREEEEMELY AMAZING DAY! :D
