Fear Itself - “Eater”

I watched last week’s episode of Fear Itself today; it was called “Eater”! Sounds nice, right? ;]

It was about a cannibal being held overnight in this police station holding cell. I feel like it took place in Colorado. I don’t know why lmao, but I got the feeling it did because of the way it looked and it was snowing and whatever! That’s unimportant hahah.

So of course…the cannibal doesn’t stay in his cell all night and he…well he does what cannibals do I guess. That’s the basic idea of it. I have lots of good things to say about it, as well as not so good things…

First, it was visually AMAZING. The shots, colors, lighting, EVERYTHING. It was like…insanely awesome in that sense. So the director gets an A+, but I already knew he was great from some of his other work in this past year’s Horrorfest.

The writer on the otherhand, gets maybe a B at the most. It’s reveelaed early on that he basically got the idea of the character from Silence Of The Lambs. He even has the characters talk about the similarities between this cannibal and Buffalo Bill lmao, come on. I’ll accept “homage”, but in general it was too much of a ripoff to go unnoticed. And a blonde woman cop being chased by the cannibal? Really? The story is entirely different but the characters are basically the same.

Now even though I said the story was different, I didn’t say it was unique ;] It was pretty basic and didn’t bring anything new to the table…and it also had lots of plot holes; the main one being that if the cannibal took down a fat guy, a black guy, and a strong looking white guy in less than half an hour, why was it such an effort to take down the blonde woman? It was a little bit silly and like I said, it was nothing insanely original.

But luckily the director saved the day with his stunning visuals They were actually good enough that they made the episode really great. :D

Now I’m looking forward to next week’s (they’re taking a week off?) episode because it’s directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, director of Saw II, III, and IV! It looks really good so hopefully it will be!

God damn, I wrote alot more than I expected to when I came up here to blog quickly lmao. I was going to just write that it looked good but it had plot holes. Damnnnn! ;D
